Accommodation
The official conference hotel for 18 and 19 October is the InterContinental Cairo Semiramis, Corniche El Nil, P.O. Box 60, Cairo 11511, Egypt (tel. +20 2 2798 8000).
Getting from the airport to the conference venue
The organisers do not provide a shuttle service. Participants should arrange their own transport from Cairo International Airport (CAI) to the city centre, about 25 minutes away without heavy traffic:
- Official taxi. White metered taxis are available at the airport ranks. This is the simplest option on arrival.
- Private transfer. Several companies offer a pre-booked car with a fixed price, useful for late-night arrivals.
- Ride-hailing apps such as Uber or Careem also operate from the airport.
We recommend agreeing the fare, or booking in advance, before leaving the terminal.
Visa requirements
Most participants will need a visa to enter Egypt, and requirements depend on nationality:
- Citizens of a number of countries, and holders of a valid Schengen, US, UK or Japanese visa, may enter visa-free for a short stay.
- Citizens of many other countries can apply in advance for an e-visa at the official portal, gov.eg.
- Citizens of a further group of countries can purchase a visa on arrival at Cairo airport, at the bank counter before passport control.
Because requirements vary by nationality and can change, each participant should check their own case well in advance of travelling, ideally through the official portal above or their nearest Egyptian embassy or consulate. A passport valid for at least six months beyond the entry date, with blank pages, is required in all cases.
Weather
In mid-to-late October, Cairo is typically warm and dry, with daytime highs around 28–30°C (82–86°F) and cooler evenings around 18–20°C (64–68°F). Rain is very unlikely. Light layers are recommended, plus something warmer for the evening.
Closing day visit
On 20 October, participants will travel from the conference venue to the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza for the cultural visit and closing session. As with airport transfers, the organisers do not provide transport for this visit; participants should arrange their own way there, for example by taxi or ride-hailing app. Details of the meeting time will be announced closer to the conference.
