A story that did not start in Cairo

The group behind this Academy has been meeting, arguing, and building trust across previous editions of the MIL Global Conference โ€” a Euro-Mediterranean network working together long before it had a name of its own. What happens in Cairo is not a beginning; it is the moment this group formally constitutes itself as an academic body.

What is being constituted

Cooperation between universities and research centres on joint doctoral programmes, master's degrees, undergraduate tracks, and courses across the full range of MILID fields.

What makes it singular

Not MIL in general, but a specific, interdisciplinary territory: the digitalisation of societies, the mediatization of everyday life, and the growing role of artificial intelligence in education, culture, and society.

Why "Academy," not "University"

"Academy" widens the concept beyond formal higher-education institutions to include research centres, professional networks, media, and civil society โ€” echoing, without appropriating, the name of AASTMT.

An institutional reach few platforms can claim

Building relationships with the European Union, the League of Arab States, UNESCO, and other international organisations at the same time โ€” European and Arab, academic and intergovernmental.

When and how

Day 2 (19 October 2026), immediately following MILID Screen.

Who this is for

Universities and research centres across the Euro-Mediterranean space and beyond, working on digitalisation, mediatization, and AI's impact on education, culture, and society.
