Why research needs a room of its own

Most of what happens at this conference is designed to be seen. This seminar is different: before research can travel beyond the seminar room, someone has to decide how. That decision happens here, on 19 October, when the UNITWIN MILID Network and the UNESCO Chairs on Media and Information Literacy sit down together to govern their own cooperation.

Who is at the table

The UNITWIN MILID Network โ€” the university network built under UNESCO's UNITWIN Cooperation Programme on MIL and Intercultural Dialogue. The UNESCO Chairs on MIL โ€” individual chairs holding UNESCO's mandate on MIL within their own institutions.

What actually gets decided

Cooperation agreements between institutions, lines of knowledge transfer from research to practice, and decisions about how MIL scholarship reaches wider audiences.

Where this leads: MILID Screen

This seminar is the governance foundation from which MILID Screen is launched and sustained the same day. First, the Network and the Chairs decide how research gets out; then, MILID Screen gives that decision a concrete, public form.

When and how

13:30โ€“14:30, Day 2 (19 October 2026). A working seminar, not a mass-audience panel.

Who this is for

Institutions and researchers already part of UNITWIN MILID or holding a UNESCO Chair on MIL, and institutions seeking to join this cooperation.
